Personal Data & Cookies
Cookie Management
When visiting a website operated by the European Trustworthy AI Association browsing information may be stored in text files called "cookies" on your computer or mobile device.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file containing a limited amount of data, such as a unique identifier (e.g., session ID, language preference, navigation security code, name of the server, and potentially an expiration date). It may be temporarily stored on your device's hard drive, depending on your cookie preferences, when visiting a website via a browser. Cookies are managed by the internet browser and can be accessed by right-clicking on the webpage and selecting "Inspect."
Only the issuer of the cookie can modify the information it contains. A cookie can be either a session cookie or a persistent cookie.
A session cookie only lasts during the browsing session and is deleted when the browser is closed. A persistent cookie remains on the device until its expiration date or until manually deleted via the browser settings or extensions.
Cookies do not identify an individual but rather the browser on a device. Some cookies require user consent before being stored.
What are cookies used for?
Essential cookies: These are strictly necessary cookies placed by the website publisher. They are required for browsing the website. Disabling or blocking them may prevent access to the website and its services or impact how it is displayed. These cookies enable the use of the main site features and secure the user's session. Their placement does not require prior consent and their lifespan generally does not exceed the session duration.
Functional cookies: These cookies are necessary for the proper functioning of the website. Their placement does not require prior consent. They are used to:
• Generate anonymous usage statistics to help administer and improve the website
• Adapt the website display based on the user's device preferences (language, resolution, OS, etc.) during visits
Websites operated by the European Trustworthy AI Association use Google Analytics for audience analysis, in compliance with GDPR. Google Analytics may place cookies with lifespans ranging from a few minutes to 11 months.
Third party cookies
Some websites may include third-party applications that deposit "social" or advertising/tracking cookies, especially for:
• Consent/refusal of cookies via Axeptio, by French company Agilitation
• Embedded content viewers like YouTube for video playback
• Social media sharing features that allow users to share website content
• Membership application forms via JotForm (form.jotform.com) — only on pages embedding the form
Cookies placed by these third parties can track visited pages, collect personal data (such as IP addresses), and share them with other entities. These cookies may be used by advertising platforms to display targeted and personalized ads. Their lifespan can range from a session to several years. European Trustworthy AI Association websites have no control over how these content hosts and social platforms collect and use navigation data or associate it with other personal data they may have. Cookie settings can be managed by the user. However, to access certain content provided by the Institute, third-party cookies may need to be accepted.
